2024 Christmas Fundraiser
To celebrate Christmas this year, members of the St George Sutherland Law Society took part in a hotly-contested trivia fundraiser for our chosen charity, Project Youth. Great company, canapés and drinks, a cool sea breeze on a humid summer evening at the beautiful Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, and all for a good cause – what could be better?
It was an honour for us to be joined by Karen Tsoumbaras of Project Youth. Project Youth is a local organisation which provides support, accommodation, and training to young people in need aged between 12 and 24. Karen gave a speech to members highlighting the hidden issue of youth homelessness, including the sobering reality that the equivalent of a full high school of young people in need have been turned away due to lack of resources. Karen spoke about Project Youth’s social enterprise café in Menai, Café Y. Members also had the chance to buy some Silver Linings herbal tea, the blend of which was designed by Project Youth participants. Finally, Karen shared the exciting news with us that Project Youth has been selected as the NSW Young Lawyers’ charity for 2025 – an amazing achievement for this Shire-based charity!
Nathan from QuizzaMe presided over a competitive and highly entertaining game of trivia. With the amount of clarifications and follow-up questions asked from the floor, this might be the last time he hosts a game for a room full of lawyers! Many laughs were shared and the night was full of banter and friendly rivalry.
Congratulations to The Emus for winning the night, and to Kane and Emma for winning the true and false competitions. Thanks to Louisa, Charlotte, Riley, and Callum for organising the event. We look forward to more social events in 2025.
We warmly encourage members to donate to Project Youth, and check out Café Y in Menai.
